Stand Aside

Synopsis:
Seon-joo’s grandfather, who had been hospitalized in a nursing home, suffers an accident. The family gathers to discuss whether to send him back to the facility, but Seon-joo’s mother strongly opposes the idea. Watching her mother clash with the rest of the family, Seon-joo feels detached, as if everything related to her grandfather is someone else’s concern.

Planning Intent:
Within the structure of a family, a wide range of emotions emerge depending on relationships. I wanted to visually express the intangible and complex nature of these emotions.

Production Process:
Capturing the structure of a family was a key aspect of this project. To emphasize the resemblance among family members, we cast actors with similar physical traits. Additionally, to highlight the generational differences in living spaces, we carefully selected locations that reflect the actual homes of people in those respective age groups—one for the grandmother’s home and another for teenage Seon-joo’s home.
